It was an honour to attend and speak at the Sikh Flag Raising Ceremony on the occasion of Sikh Heritage month on Saturday, April 12 in Saskatoon.
It was wonderful to have so many colleagues present for this special occasion. The Honourable Alana Ross delivered greetings on behalf of the Government of Saskatchewan. Also attending was the Honourable Eric Schmalz, MLA Megan Patterson, MLA Jamie Martens, MLA Kevin Weedmark, and MLA Barret Kropft.
The meaningful event celebrates the rich heritage, values, and contributions of the Sikh community. The raising of the Nishan Sahib, the Sikh flag, symbolizes unity, justice, and the unwavering commitment to serve humanity—principles at the heart of the Sikh faith.
This ceremony is not only a vibrant cultural tradition but also a powerful reminder of the importance of inclusion, resilience, and respect for all. Being part of this moment , along with several colleagues was a humbling experience and a testament to the strength and spirit of the Sikh community.

With the beginning of spring, I thought you might find this interesting!
According to an old Polish legend, many springtime's ago a mother cat was crying at the bank of the river in which her kittens were drowning. The willows at the river's edge longed to help her, so they swept their long graceful branches into the waters to rescue the tiny kittens who had fallen into the river while chasing butterflies. The kittens gripped on tightly to their branches and were safely brought to shore. Each springtime since, goes the legend, the willow branches sprout tiny fur-like buds at their tips where the tiny kittens once clung.
